Northwestern's McCormick School of Engineering profiled Milan McGraw, a Chicago LEAD program alumnus whose career has moved from data science into applied AI and machine learning.
McGraw had already worked at technology companies including Amazon and Groupon when he returned to school to deepen his understanding of deep learning and artificial intelligence. The 2023 Northwestern profile describes how that education helped him move into an AI and machine learning role with Amazon Web Services.
Making AI understandable and useful
In his AWS work, McGraw helps clients identify automation solutions from a large and growing set of cloud services. He also teaches through FourthBrain, helping people enter machine learning, artificial intelligence, and machine learning operations.
His path is a useful example of how an AI education can open several kinds of doors: technical work, client communication, teaching, and the ability to explain complex systems to people across an organization.
